Willkommen in der Hölle

The illustrated book ‘Willkommen in der Hölle’ portraying life in a refugee camp, features powerful hand-drawn artwork. Created with Visa Vie, Stelp and Viva con Agua’s Millerntor Gallery. Approximately 30,000 refugees currently reside on the Greek islands, living under conditions that fall far short of basic humanitarian standards. STELP e. V. is dedicated to improving this situation. Our mission is to promote a world in which all individuals can live in safety, dignity, and with the ability to determine their own lives. Ignoring injustice, violence, or degradation is not an option for us. The book “Welcome to Hell” presents the harrowing story of young Mina, who grows up in a refugee camp situated at the external borders of Europe. The already precarious circumstances deteriorate further each day as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing political developments. The short story was authored by Visa Vie.

The accompanying illustrations by Sasan Pix provide a precise and visually grounded interpretation of the narrative. Through high-contrast, monochrome drawings and a restrained yet expressive visual language, the illustrations reflect the emotional and physical conditions described in the text. Central themes and moments from Visa Vie’s writing are translated into clear, focused imagery, creating a coherent interplay between written narrative and visual representation that deepens the reader’s understanding of the story.

Proceeds from the sale of the book on Startnext directly support STELP e. V.’s humanitarian work. Our projects aim to improve living conditions for refugees and ensure long-term assistance where it is most urgently needed. Owing to the support of numerous partners, the full purchase price of each book is directed entirely to these initiatives.
